Great Field Trip In Our Town
Our class went on a field trip to the community Garden, Beaudry's, the Library, and the Post Office. We learned many new things about our town and helped in the garden. We dug weeds to help the garden grow, and planted our seed strips of radishes and carrots. We also planted our tomato plants and sketched items in the garden.
The building Beaudry's is in was built in the early 1800's. Before it was Beaudry's, it was a barbershop and a post office. The original owners opened Beaudry's in 1947. Linda and her family bought the store in 1978. We were surprised to learn on an average day 500-600 people go through the store. Linda and her family use to live in the deli part of the store. Then, Linda and her family bought the house next door.
The Post Office gets a lot of mail each week. For example, they get 2,000 magazines, 600 packages, and 11,000 pieces of mail and "junk mail"! Ms Lyons, the post master, also gave us a great coloring stamp book. We had fun mailing our letters to our friends and family members.
We would like to thank Linda Pecor, Sandy Heyman, Stacey Symanowicz, Heidi Racht, and Megan Lyons for taking time out of their busy days to help us learn more about our community!

Our class would like to thank Sandy Heyman and the Huntington Cookbook Committe for their generous donation! We received almost all of our brand new books. They compliment our science and social studies units. We can't wait to start reading them!

Nonfiction Reading Celebration
Our nonfiction reading unit culminated with first and second graders reading to kindergartners! Students have been practicing with reading aloud like experts! They engaged their kindergarten friends in conversation about what was interesting or surprising in the books they read. It was so enjoyable to see my readers in action as TEACHERS!
